What is an Elmer?

In the world of amateur radio, an “Elmer” is a mentor—someone who is ready and willing to offer advice, share their knowledge, and help you troubleshoot any problems. Our Elmer Team is made up of dedicated volunteers  who are passionate about helping others get the most out of their ham radio experience.

WCARA Elmer guidelines:

  • Due to liability concerns, we can not climb your tower, antenna masts, or be on your rooftop.
  • We can not provide any WCARA equipment, antennas, etc.
  • Our Elmers can not travel more than 50 miles from a radius of Quitman.
  • Elmers may use their own test equipment or other equipment as needed.
  • Elmers strive to teach and train not just do for you. No adjustments to radios or antennas will be done by the Elmers.
  • Elmers are consultants only and they nor the club accept any liability from their recommendations to your equipment or station.
